More Pens

I've added a new batch of pens that I've made. The first 2 are made from cherry that a friend of mine gave me. These pens are for him and his wife as keepsakes. The tree was damaged in a big windstorm.

Pen number three is made from Myrtal wood with walnut accents, it goes to my wife's boss. Pen four is also from Myrtal wood, in fact the same piece of wood, and it goes to my boss, to give as a gift to his dad.

The Cherry pens took about ½ hour each to turn and finish. The Myrtal wood pens take about twice that. I guess using the myrtal wood has helped improve my skills because it is such a tough wood to turn. Use very sharp tools, take light cuts and plan to sand out the imperfections. With such a wild grain it is not easy to plane the wood and get a smooth surface.

Enjoy, and be careful of the splinters.
